What can I expect from this COVID-19 test?
A nasal swab will be inserted into both of your child’s nostrils. Unlike many other COVID-19 rapid tests, our new nasal swab test is only inserted 1 inch into your child’s nostrils. Once results are read by the provider a signed letter with the results will be given to the parent. All test results will be reported to the state within 24hrs.
What does the test detect?
This rapid test detects antigens that are present on the actual COVID-19 virus. A positive antigen test means you have the virus.
Will my child be examined by the provider when the test is performed?
No. Scheduling a COVID-19 rapid test does not include any physical exam. If you would like your child examined by the provider please schedule an “In-Home visit” in addition to the COVID-19 test. If there are obvious signs of the child being in distress the provider may recommend taking the child to the ER.
Will this test allow my child to return to school?
It is our understanding that schools will accept this as a valid test. Please contact your child’s school to see if this test is accepted. The official name of this test is “BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card”. It is a rapid test nasal swab test.
Is this test accurate?
Thus far this test has found to have greater than 97% accuracy. It is best to have your child tested within 7 days of symptom onset.
